Kurt Shafer’s Inventing Life
In 1967 Kurt was sitting on his surfboard off Torrance Beach California when he thought about how a sail on a boat accelerates the boat when it is turned at an angle so he imagined what a surfboard fin might do if it was flexible and could increase its angle when on a wave. That thought led him to invent the first flexible surfboard fin.
In 1978 Kurt was living in a house with sash windows and screens outside the windows. Kurt imagined a way to eliminate the screens to enhance the view. He took apart a window blind that normally was mounted above windows and he replaced the blind material with window screen material. He mounted the window screen on the roller at the base of one of the sash windows and attached the screen to the bottom of the lower sash window frame. When the sash window was raised it pulled the screen
